What a fabulous story. All hail your dad. He sounds like a wonderful man. I’m sure he’s very proud of having passed on this wisdom to you. I learned a similar lesson from my brother when I once saw him at work: he spoke to everyone from his boss to the tea lady and cleaners with the same politeness and generosity of spirit. It didn’t matter who they were, they were all people doing their best at being human.
Thank you Jason for this story. It takes me back to my time growing up and having to the help around the house inside and out, and being taught, whatever you're job is , do it the best way you can. Not for others, but for yourself. I always worked for others as a pharmacist, but did the job as if it were my own company. Served me well for 49 years.
My parents were raised in the 30s, poor farmers, but their families were full of love and there were no 'airs', ever. No social climbing, just do your best no matter what. I have found out my father was at the top of his job in the Air Force. Didn't have the top rank, but had the confidence to get things done, during a time when understanding was not so prevalent. My life goal to follow in those footsteps has kept me grounded.
Loved this so much and it made me think of the gorgeous movie Perfect Days. If you haven't seen it, it's worth the watch! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27503384/
I remember reading about how top executives in Japan take pride in cleaning toilets (likely their own). It’s a sign of humility but also of attention to detail, using one’s hands, and being present.
Love this story about -such humbleness is sorely lacking these days. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for reading Caroline!

Dignity and self respect are very important. Your Dad has both and it looks like you do too.
Beautiful picture in my head of your dad. You were blessed! He is someone to be proud of.
